THE CHALLENGE
How might we elevate the product’s value and drive higher revenue through innovative packaging?
THE OUTCOME
Reimagined packaging of a Gajra strand to traditionally welcome guests at a wedding.

THE PROCESS
The Product
Gajra, a small garland of jasmine flowers, is carried as an accessory by women of India. They are also distributed at Indian weddings by the bride’s family to the guests, as the welcome present.

The Problem
While distributing gajras among the guests, the gajras tend to get entangled within one another, thus destroying the flowers and the impression of the hosts at the same time.
To make this clumsy process a bit simpler, there had to be some intervention.

Factors to keep in mind
Luxury • Usability • Novelty • Uniqueness • Aesthetics
Current Packaging
A single gajra strand is wrapped in a leaf and secured with a thread, making it easy to source with minimal investment.

Multiple Iterations later
After multiple iterations, I finalized a boat-shaped design to spark curiosity about the contents inside. I experimented with paper, considering size, alignment, stackability, sturdiness, and elegance.
The final material is upcycled seed paper with screen-printed graphics using organic dyes.

Interactions
The form allows you to hold it the way one joins hands to greet also called ‘namaste’, making it more culturally expressive.

The opening of the packaging resembles the action of blooming of a flower acting as a warm welcoming experience at weddings.

The transition from being a boat to the blooming of a flower and finally smelling its fragrance uplifts the experience thus being a fresh start to an auspicious event.
